Avatar Upload Types
Choosing what type of Avatar you upload is important to the final result.
Clothed vs Naked Models
The system provides the option to upload both naked and clothed Avatar models.
It is recommended to upload naked Avatar models and clothing Wearables separately because it allows extended use of your 3D creations within the Genies ecosystem.
Uploading Clothed Avatars
If uploading a clothed Avatar, then adding Wearables may result in various fit and collision challenges may occur. The following examples illustrate how Wearables interact with an uploaded clothed Avatar and highlight potential issues you might encounter.
To reduce these issues, uploading a naked Avatar allows Wearables to be applied as intended, without the need for additional scaling or collision adjustments.
Proxy Mesh
This image illustrates how a Wearable item is fitted onto a clothed Avatar using a proxy mesh. The proxy mesh acts as an intermediate step, adjusting the Wearable’s shape to conform to the avatar while preventing clipping, misalignment, or excessive bulkiness.
As you can see, the proxy mesh is accommodating the accessories on the left waist, making that side appear bulkier. This results in an uneven fit for the Wearable, where one side may be looser or more extended than the other.
Baggier Fit
To accommodate the additional clothing layer of a clothed Avatar, some Wearables (e.g., jackets, hoodies, shirts) may appear baggier or looser than intended. This happens because the Wearable must be scaled outward to prevent clipping or collision with the pre-existing outfit. In some cases, this adjustment can affect the visual appeal, making the Wearable look larger than its original design.
Clipping
Some Wearables may overlap or clip through the clothed Avatar due to the added geometry from the base outfit. Unlike a naked Avatar, which allows for a clean and direct application of Wearables, a clothed Avatar introduces layering complexity that may require additional adjustments.
Uploading Naked Avatars
Uploading an unclothed Avatar allows you to take full advantage of the Genies Avatar system. This ensures your Avatar can equip any and all Wearables available in our Genies Wearables library. An unclothed Avatar set up properly for our system will also ensure proper fit and reduction of existing clothing collisions.
Once you've uploaded your individual Wearables and your Avatar, you'll have the opportunity to equip your custom Wearables to your custom Avatar.
